It would seem that there is now an international day for everything, but still, Mothering Sunday (and Fathers day) remain dates that people celebrate annually. Mother’s Day is perhaps a day that we often mark without really knowing why! So, we thought we would give you a brief history of Mother’s Day, and take you through our Sign Maker gift guide to help you prepare for this year’s celebrations.
Mothering Sunday dates back as far as the 16th century. On the fourth Sunday of lent, people in the UK would return to their mother church (the church in their parish or where they were baptised). By the 20th century, it had become custom that children who had moved away from home would return to visit family. Domestic servants were given the day off and it was traditional to pick some wildflowers to give to your mother before you arrived. By the 1920s, what started off as a religious celebration, became secular, and now most people celebrate mothers day with cards, gifts and time shared together as a family.
Gift Giving With The Sign Maker
The Sign Maker is a family run business, so days like these are important to us too! Spending time with the maternal figures in our lives is a gift in itself, but we can also use mothers day as an opportunity to treat the maternal figures in our lives with something special. Some like to give the traditional gift of flowers, but others choose to gift small tokens of appreciation that are more personal to them.
Looking for the perfect mothers day gift? Look no further than The Sign Maker Shop. Our products are both high-quality and thoughtful – they are sure to put a smile on the face of your loved one this mothers day! From personalised keyrings to bottle stoppers, gardening gear and fun signage, we have gifts that will suit anyone and everyone!
Personalised Wooden Gifts
We craft some beautiful personalised gifts here onsite, a favourite of ours being the keyrings that we make. The keyrings come in a range of shapes and sizes and are crafted from cherry wooden timber. These pieces can be engraved with children’s names, special dates, or short messages to make a mum smile. However you design your keyring, these gifts are bound to be a hit on Mother’s Day. Additionally, our keyrings arrive in a lovely drawstring gift bag so they are ready to go as soon as they arrive!
Alternative wooden gifts include bespoke chopping boards, key boxes and wooden spoons! Check out our full range of engraved and personalised wooden gifts in our online shop.
Photo Gifts For Mother’s Day
Looking for a thoughtful and creative gift for this year? A photo gift might be just what you are looking for, and thankfully we craft several different photo-based products. From glass photo blocks to luggage tags and lockets, we know that a mum would cherish these gifts forever.
We particularly like the solid glass photo blocks as they can be put on display and admired. In an age where most of our photos are digital, we think that it is wonderful to have pictures on display!
