Well, that’s a wrap! With 2022 drawing to a close, we wanted to share some of this year’s highlights with you. Across new products, team and further developments in our environmental projects – it’s been a fantastic year for us at The Sign Maker, and we’ve been so glad to have many of you join us for the ride.
New Products from The Sign Maker for 2022
As a company, we’re constantly striving to develop our product range and production processes. We do this so that you have access to the very best signage available! By blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, and finding the perfect balance between the two, we have continued to turn out hundreds of signs that we are incredibly proud of.
2022 saw the launch of several new materials for The Sign Maker. From distinctive Rainbow Sandstone to unique, sustainable PaperStone – it has been exciting to explore the versatility of these materials. In addition to this, we also expanded our range of engraved products by investing in an impact engraving machine. This machinery enables us to craft signs and memorials with astonishing detail. Despite being in the business for over 20 years, even we were surprised by the capabilities of impact engraving technology.
Speaking of engraving, our engraved jubilee plaques, tree planting stakes and memorials in loving memory of HM The Queen have been a privilege for us to craft this year. We’ve seen so many different designs and wonderful tributes that celebrate her life’s work in beautiful ways.
Environmental Work
One of the things that we have been most excited about has been partnering with The North Devon Biosphere. While environmental work has always been important to us, this partnership has allowed us to find community with like-minded businesses. The partnership has also given us a greater focus on specific projects through their ‘Pledge For Nature’ scheme.
If you’ve followed along with us this year, you’ll know one of our favourite ventures was our ‘Queen Bee Project’. We partnered up with The Outdoors Group to gift six handcrafted bug boxes. The bug boxes were placed at each forest school site situated across Devon in honour of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We have also enjoyed planting up a brand new wildflower meadow, creating plans for a microforest, and furthering our tree planting initiative.
Awards and Achievements
The pandemic slowed the roll on awards, but 2022 saw the return of award seasons nationally. Much to our surprise (and delight), we were named the NDMA’s Champion Manufacturer of the year. This was a huge and unexpected win for us, but a moment that we won’t ever forget! We were also thrilled to be runner-up for their Environmental Project award.
The Sign Maker was also named the ‘Best Family-Run Sign Manufacturer in the South West’ and given the ‘SME Sustainable Business Excellence Award’ in the Southern Enterprise awards 2022. Most recently, we were rated ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Eco Friendly Business of the Year’ Category at the Devon Women in Business Awards to close out a very successful awards season for us. These are some huge achievements for our small, family-run North Devon business, something that we have immense gratitude for. It has been wonderful to celebrate alongside some highly esteemed businesses across the county.
For us, being a successful business is about so much more than industry recognition. So many thoughtful individuals message in with words of appreciation for our sign-making service. This means so much to us as a team. Crafting quality signs and memorials is something that we have believed in from day one. How wonderful to know that this is still something that has remained at the heart of our business!
