Reflecting on a Busy Show Season

As the show season wraps up here at The Sign Maker, we’re down to our final two events: the Holsworthy Agricultural Show and the Bideford Business Expo. It’s the perfect time to reflect on the shows we’ve attended this year and share what we’ve enjoyed most. It’s incredible to think that just a few years ago, attending shows wasn’t even on our radar, and now they’ve become a key part of our annual calendar.

The Land Rover Show

Our first stop this season was the Land Rover Show at the Bath and West Show Ground. This marked our debut at a 4×4 event, as it’s only the second year for our new venture, WheelCover.com. Poppy, Caroline, and Debbie headed to the two-day show, fully equipped with signs and wheel covers, and were met by an enthusiastic crowd of Land Rover aficionados.

We loved exploring the wide array of vendors, from tent boxes and 4×4 vehicle parts to clothing brands and even Exmoor Trim, another Devon-based company specializing in Land Rover customizations. Make sure to check out their website!

The Funeral Show

Yes, you read that right—we exhibited at The National Funeral Show. While it might sound unusual, the event was filled with some of the most cheerful and welcoming people you could meet. Poppy and Kate (our director and her daughter) represented our UK Memorials brand at this event. We opted for a small stand to get a feel for the atmosphere.

You might wonder who attends a funeral show, and as you’d expect, it’s a business-oriented event where funeral directors, natural burial ground owners, and others in the industry gather. We had an interesting time exploring the creative and unique services on offer, including brightly painted coffins, motorcycle hearses, and even the option to have your ashes scattered in space!

The Game Fair

Now, this was a major event! With an astounding 119,378 attendees over three days, The Game Fair was a highlight of our season. Our team for this event included Debbie, Kate, Shaun, Danielle, and an extra helper—Kate’s granddaughter and Danielle’s daughter, Mia. It was a true family affair!

Representing The Sign Maker, we also showcased our wheel covers and memorials. The weather was perfect, making for a fantastic experience. We met a diverse range of people and, of course, countless dogs! This show is a must-attend for anyone interested in shooting, fishing, and country life. We’re already looking forward to next year.

North Devon Show

This year, we returned to our local favorite, the North Devon Show. When we say “local,” we mean it—this event is just a 10-minute drive from our door! Caroline and Poppy enjoyed a delightful day meeting local customers and hosting our popular “Guess the Weight” competition.

If you’re seeking a fun and relaxed day out next year, we highly recommend the North Devon Show. It offers everything you’d expect from a traditional agricultural show, including entertainment, fairground rides, crafts, gifts, and a delicious food tent.

Looking Ahead

As mentioned, we still have two exciting events on the horizon: the Holsworthy Show on August 22nd and the Bideford Business Expo on October 31st. If you’re in Devon or visiting the area, be sure to stop by and say hello! And if you know of any other fantastic shows or events we should consider attending, do let us know.
