The Sign Maker has been shortlisted as a finalist at the North Devon Journal Business Awards. Find out how they started and what makes them successful!

Shaun Price started The Sign Maker in the year 2000. He was the ideas and the manpower and his wife Kate Price had the know-how on advertising and Marketing.

It began very small with just a range of wooden signs, this was followed quite quickly by stone house signs. Then the purchase of an engraving machine which produced a huge amount of no smoking signs that gave Shaun nightmares and a vast quantity of Engraved Plaques!

Since then The Sign Maker has grown year by year with new relationships with UK trade suppliers like Winkleigh Timber and Mole Valley Farmers. Their children also became part of the team with Anna their daughter becoming part of the vinyl team and their son Jake designing the signs.

As the business obtained profit, Shaun got more ideas which meant obtaining more equipment! They expanded from just offering wooden house signs to a huge range of Stone, Metal even Finger posts and Wheel covers!

They decided to push their company ethos to look after the countryside. First, they erected a wind turbine which runs their business. Then got a biomass to heat the business using locally sourced timber.

Kates interest and passion for the environment keeps her exploring and creating new environmentally friendly practices and with Shaun’s vision, the wildlife ponds were recently created! Now Shaun isn’t a part of the production team he focuses on creating new products and services to keep The Sign Maker growing.
