Which timber should I choose for my sign.

We are often asked which is the best wood for a sign. Difficult question – a lot is down to personal choice. Oak to my mind is the most beautiful of all timbers and it is exceptionally durable. However it does need maintaining to prevent it going black.  Timbers full of oil and therefore needing less maintenance are red cedar, opepe and iroko.  If you prefer a redder wood sapele might suit you – it is similar to mahogany but comes from sustainable sources.
